ASHGABAT, January 19 (News.az) -- For 1 January 2012, the Azerbaijani population increased by 123,900 persons or 1.4% and made up 9,235,500, according to tentative data.

 

The density of population per a square meter made 107 persons, according to the State Statistics Committee, Gun.Az reported.

 

Of the population, 53% lives in cities and 47% in villages. Of them 49.6% are men and 50.4% are women. Each 1,017 women fall on 1,000 men.

 

Thus, 22.3% of the population is in 0-14, 71.9% in 15-64 and 5.8% in old age categories. Youths in 14-29 age categories make up 30.9% of the population.

 

According to calculations, babies born last year are expected to live 73.6 years, including boys – 70.9 years and girls – 76.2 years.

 

In 2011, the number of deaths was fixed at 53,100.

 

Compared to 2010, the death rate per 1,000 persons in 2011 decreased from 6.0% to 5.9%.
