MOSCOW, Dec 21 (Interfax). The CIS summit resulted in the signing of a package of documents, including one increasing the role of observers of presidential and parliamentary elections.
"After the meeting of the CIS Council of the heads of state a decision was made to increase the role of the CIS monitoring mission at presidential and parliamentary elections and at referenda in the CIS countries," the Kremlin said.
It was also decided to make cooperation on communications and informatization a key topic of the CIS economic cooperation in 2012.
The leaders also adopted a statement on the results of the Moscow summit.
They signed a protocol resolution awarding a CIS certificate of merit and signed a resolution declaring Astana and Mara as the Commonwealth's cultural capitals in 2012.
