CANNES, January 25 (TCA) — Turkmen delegation led by chairman of the National Space Agency Alladurdy Atayev is on a working visit in French Cannes, Trend News reported.
The trip is aimed to analyze and evaluate the work on constructing the Turkmen national artificial satellite.
In 2011, French Thales Alenia Space and Turkmen Government have signed the appropriate contract. Later, the Chinese Great Wall Company and Thales signed the agreement, which implies that China will help Turkmenistan in launching its first communication satellite.
According to the source, it is planned to launch the satellite from the Chinese Xichang space centre in 2014.
The experts estimate Turkmenistan’s astroclimatic condition as one among the best in the world for conducting the observation. In particular, the transparency of the atmosphere, favorable wind regime and lighting allows more than 2000 hours of observation of space objects a year.
Reportedly, the satellite is expected to be used to monitor agricultural lands, conduct research for the needs of the oil and gas complex and carry out environmental monitoring from space.
