BISHKEK, March 5 (TCA) — Three grenades were found inside the Bishkek office of Tribuna newspaper yesterday, Interior Ministry reported.
According to its statement, police officers found a box with grenades and a book. The book contained an igniter for the grenades.
The newspaper’s chief editor Yrys Omurzakov alleged to RFE/RL that the grenades must have been planted by security agents as retaliation for his recently published book criticizing Kyrgyzstan's current government.
The Tribuna newspaper is a private weekly in Russian that frequently publishes materials by opposition groups.
Meanwhile, police officials say the newspaper offices were searched after an anonymous caller informed police about explosives inside the offices.
