Centerra comments on renewed probe into Kumtor agreements

BISHKEK (TCA) — After Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev last week ordered the General Prosecutor’s Office to renew the investigation into the legality of the 2003-2004 and 2009 agreements governing the country’s largest gold project, Kumtor, Canada-based Centerra Gold Inc. has made a statement to make its “position on this matter to be clear so as to avoid any misinformation or misunderstanding”.

Turkmenistan would abolish free quotas for natural gas, water and electricity

ASHGABAT (TCA) — At a meeting with local entrepreneurs at Turkmenistan’s Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs on June 8, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov said that the state budget allows for maintaining benefits for the residents of Turkmenistan, the Chronicles of Turkmenistan independent website reported citing official Turkmen media. The existing benefit program provides for free quotas for electricity, natural gas and water to the citizens of Turkmenistan.

Remittances from Central Asian labor migrants sharply decrease

BISHKEK (TCA) — According to the Central Bank of Russia, in the first quarter of 2016 money remittances from Russia to CIS countries amounted to $914 million, which is almost twice as less than in the first quarter 2015 ($1.781 billion) and 3.7-fold less than in the same period in the pre-crisis year 2014 ($3.364 billion).

BISHKEK (TCA) — Three leading stone processing companies from the Kyrgyz Republic attended one of the largest industry events dedicated to stone, marble and ceramics - Middle East Stone 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, USAID said on June 15. More than 230 companies showcased their products and 12,000 visitors attended for live demonstrations and networking opportunities. Kazakh entrepreneurs to take part in Global Entrepreneurship Summit

ASTANA (TCA) — Ten representatives from Kazakhstan will attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), which will take place from June 22-24 in Palo Alto, California, the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan said. One of the participants will be Magzhan Madiyev, famous for founding the naimi.kz project; Madiyev was a participant in the Open World 2015 program and was also one of the trainers at TechForum Central Asia 2016 held in Astana. Another participant is Kurmanagaliyeva Aizhan, an alumna of the Ugrad 2004 program; Aizhan is currently director of the “Best Education” private school in Oskemen. They will be joining more than 700 entrepreneurs from around the world along with investors, speakers, and leaders in the entrepreneurship space.
